Baseball Manitoba Cancels 2021 Provincial Championships

Published

on

Tuesday, June 29, 2021

Baseball Manitoba has made the difficult decision to cancel all Provincial Championships in 2021.

The decision was made with the safety and development of our members as the top priority. Provincial Championships create environments with large gatherings with people from across the Province. Also, by cancelling Provincial Championships, we believe that there is more opportunity for a longer season for more players, as they compete late into Summer within their regions.

Baseball Manitoba would like to thank our 2021 Championship Host groups for all the work they have done this year. We will be working with each host, as we plan our 2022 Provincial Championships.

Sincerely,

Jason Miller – Executive Director

The Government of Canada, as a part of Canada’s COVID-19 Economic Response Plan, has created the Federal Emergency Fund which has allocated funds to Provincial Sport Organizations. Baseball Manitoba, in support of it’s member associations, has developed grant opportunities with this funding for associations whom have been and will continue to be negatively impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic. 2021 promises to be a year filled with uncertainties and we want associations to thrive and players to play!. Grants of $500-$1500 will be available to associations and leagues who offer and execute baseball programming in 2021. Eligible associations must have been active members of Baseball Manitoba within the past 3 years. New associations may be considered, if appropriate. Eligible expenses include:

  • Sanitizing Supplies
  • Signage
  • Revenue Loss due to fundraising campaigns or lost sponsorship
  • Recruitment Endeavors (mail/email, printing, ads, etc.)
  • Equipment costs (baseballs, bats, catcher’s gear, etc.)
  • Other related expenses

Member associations must complete the application form, by March 31, to be considered eligible.

Sport Manitoba’s #PlayMoreBeMore campaign is all about helping Manitobans, especially parents, learn about the dangers of specializing in one sport at a young age and the many benefits of kids playing multiple sports.

Playing a variety of sports will help young athletes:

1) Excel in their chosen sport

2) Benefit their overall athleticism

3) Avoid overuse injuries that come with repeatedly doing the same sport over and over for several years

4) Avoid burnout

5) Have fun and walk away with a positive and enjoyable experience in sport and physical activity.
