The Baseball Alberta Programs Coordinator role is a comprehensive, multi-faceted role with broad responsibilities for baseball program administration and delivery in Alberta. Reporting to the Executive Director with ultimate accountability to the Board of Directors of Baseball Alberta, this role will be based out of the Baseball Alberta Edmonton office working as part of a team of employees focused on serving the member Associations of the province in developing, administering, and growing the sport of baseball in Alberta.

Red Deer Minor Baseball was very pleased to be represented recently by two Baseball Alberta Award recipients in 11U Player of the Year Wyatt Schmidt and Umpire of the Year Clayton Wandler.

Red Deer Minor Baseball Association is proud to have Baseball Alberta’s 11U AA Player of the Year as one of our own! Wyatt Schmitt, a third year RDMBA player, is described by his coaches as a talented young player and a pleasure to coach. Wyatt’s favorite part of baseball is being part of the team. He is an admirable young player that works hard and plays with his whole heart, always quick to offer words of encouragement to his teammates. When Wyatt isn’t taking part in team commitments, he can be found playing backyard farm baseball with brothers Luke and Jasper. Wyatt’s 2021 season was played on our Tier I Silver Medal winning 11U AA Dick’s Auto Braves. Red Deer Minor Baseball Association congratulates Wyatt Schmitt and looks forward to his development in 2022 and for many years to come!

Wandler begun his umpiring journey just 7 years ago, working his way up to a level 3, respected umpire, for all divisions up to, and including, 18U and Senior AAA. Clayton has been awarded assignments including 15U AA Westerns, 15U AAA Provincials as well as his first time as plate ump in the Sunburst League this past season. Having been mentored by some great umpires in the game, Clayton has chosen to mentor our upcoming, first and second year umpires in return, giving back to our great game. Red Deer Minor Baseball Association congratulates Clayton Wandler and looks forward to seeing him on the diamond in 2022.

May 3, 2021, Lethbridge, AB – The Alberta and entire Canadian baseball community was saddened this weekend to learn of the passing of umpire Mitch Ball, due to complications from COVID-19.

Mitch was a well-respected umpire in the Western Canadian Baseball League and also participated in many Baseball Canada Championships, including the 2018 Senior Men’s Championship in Victoria, where he was behind the plate for the Gold Medal game.

In a statement on their website, Baseball Alberta and the Baseball Alberta Umpire Committee, “wanted to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends after the passing of our member and friend Mitch Ball this past weekend. The loss of Mitch is devastating to the entire Baseball Alberta Umpire fraternity.”

“Mitch was loved and admired by all those who were lucky enough to have met him. An amazing umpire on the field, Mitch was an even better person off it. Mitch was kind, humble, generous, and caring. The kind of guy who would do absolutely anything for you. The impact Mitch made on umpires and other individuals across the country cannot be measured.”

As an elite senior international umpire, Mitch defined what it meant to be a program umpire. Mitch’s contributions included instructing various Alberta NUCP clinics from Level 1 to the Super Clinic, umpiring 7 Baseball Canada Championships, Supervising at 3 Baseball Canada Championships, and umpiring at 3 international events. Mitch has been a Umpire Committee Member since 2010, serving in different capacities including the Level 1-3 Program Portfolio lead and most recently was involved in many special projects.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Jana, their children, and Mitch’s countless friends throughout the baseball world. He will be dearly missed.
