Ring shuts down Maple Leafs to lead Cardinals to victory

Colby Ring did something not many pitchers have been able to do so far this season – silence the Toronto Maple Leafs bats.
The Hamilton Cardinals starter allowed no runs on two hits, while striking out eight in six innings of work, leading his team to a 12-5 win in Intercounty Baseball League action Friday.

Offensively, after striking once in the second inning and twice in the third, the cardinals exploded for five in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth.

Tyler Duncan had a two-run home run in the fourth inning, while Laine Renaud hit a three-run bomb in the fifth.
Jose Vinicio had a pair of hits for the Maple Leafs.

The Cardinals improve to 5-3 and head to Toronto on Sunday for the second half of this home-and-home set against the Maple Leafs (6-3). Game time is 2 p.m.

Majors offence clicking

The London Majors bats did a lot of talking on Friday night at Labatt Park.

With 17 hits, seven of which seven of which were of the extra bases variety, the Majors pounded out a 15-2 win over the Brantford Red Sox in Intercounty Baseball League action.

The Majors had three big innings, scoring five runs in the fourth, four in the sixth and three more in the eighth. Byron Reichstein had a solo home run in the fourth inning, before adding two RBI the next inning thanks to a double to right field.

Eduardo de Oleo also had a solo homer in the fourth inning, while Tommy Reyes-Cruz added a solo shot in the seventh inning.

Christian Kuzemka’s single to right field scored the Red Sox two runs in the fourth inning.

Starter Jaryd Lund worked five innings, struck out four, and allowed two runs on five hits to get the win. Corey Fields was credited with the loss.

The Majors, now 4-3, visit the Welland Jackfish Saturday at 6:05 p.m. The Red Sox drop to 1-7 and host the Jackfish Sunday at 2 p.m.
