Baseball is a global game, and two Nanaimo NightOwls coaches are helping to grow the game in the middle of Europe.

Head Coach Greg Frady and Pitching Coach Gorm Heimueller will be in Geneva, Switzerland at the start of February as part of a major baseball clinic put on by the International Sport Group, covering the foundations of the game.

The Swiss crowd could not ask for better teachers than Frady, who has more than 35 years in college baseball, and Heimueller, with 45-plus years in the pro game — both are excellent communicators with an incredible passion for the sport.

“Gorm and Greg have forgotten more about the game than most of us will ever know, and it’s their affable personalities that bring that across so well and makes them a perfect fit with our organization,” said Jim Swanson, GM of the HarbourCats.

.

.

“We are proud of their ongoing accomplishments, and this is a notable trip for them to be making to better the game of baseball.”

.

Heimueller, who has three World Series rings, will be speaking about pitching and development in that area, including the relationship to catching, while Frady, the former coach of the German National Team, will talk about character and leadership, baserunning, offense, practice planning and strategy.

.

The two coaches are returning for the second year of NightOwls baseball, with the first game on June 2 at historic Serauxmen Stadium.
