WELLAND – The Welland Jackfish, members of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL), Canada’s top league, announced today the signing of designated hitter, first baseman Josh Williams for the 2023 campaign.
The 6-foot-5, Toronto, Ontario native joins the Jackfish following two seasons with the London Majors and time with the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League.
Before a season-ending injury in 2021, Josh recorded a double, a home run, and five RBI during three games and eight plate appearances. In 17 games played during the 2019 season with the Majors, Josh recorded two doubles and five RBI.
“Josh brings us a big power bat into our lineup which is something we were missing at times last season,” said Jackfish Field Manager Brian Essery. “Additionally, Josh’s character and leadership is something every successful team can’t have to much of.”
The Welland Jackfish are a member of Canada’s top baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
