Lethbridge, AB – The Canadian College Baseball Conference (CCBC) announced today that it is cancelling the 2021 Spring Season due to continuing complications of the COVID-19 Pandemic and recent public health measures around travel and other protocols announced by the various Provincial Health Authorities.

The CCBC board of governors was optimistic in the early spring that a return to play would happen and worked diligently to pursue every avenue to make the conference season happen. With provincial authorities extending CERT current restrictions it has made for challenges that can’t be overcome.

The Canadian college baseball conference, is an eight-team domestic league for university students that has teams in Nanaimo (Vancouver Island University), Victoria (Golden Tide), Kelowna (Okanagan College), Kamloops (Thompson Rivers University), Chilliwack/Abbotsford (University of the Fraser Valley), Calgary (University of Calgary), Lethbridge (Prairie Baseball Academy) and Edmonton (Edmonton Collegiate Baseball Club).

All but Victoria, who are beginning their tenure in the CCBC in September, were slated to play in the spring of 2021.

“We are committed to our student athletes and programs that we will get back on the field when the opportunity is available,”  says Canadian college baseball conference President Kevin Kvame. “We commend them on working diligently and staying committed to their academic and athletic pursuits through an extremely challenging year.”

The Canadian college baseball conference student athletes will not be charged a year of eligibility in 2020 Dash 2021.

The CCBC board of directors and operations committee will now start the planning process for September and the 2022 championship season. Announcements will be made over the course of the next three months as details are finalized.

About the CCBC

The Board of Directors of the CCBC recognizes that academic achievement is critically important to the student athletes, the baseball programs, and the respective university or college.
