TORONTO – Seven Toronto batters had multi-hit games as the Leafs’ offence exploded in a 21-10 win over London on Sunday at Christie Pits.
Jordan Castaldo drove in six with a home run and two singles for Toronto (17-16). Johnathan Solazzo went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI, Jose Vinicio went 4-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, Garrett Takamatsu and James Dutton each hit solo home runs, Justin Marra drove in a run and scored three times, Grant Tamane had a pair of RBI, Ryan Dos Santos drove in two on three hits and Dan Marra added an RBI.
Leafs’ starter Julian Valdez (3-6) benefitted from the offensive attack, picking up the win. He allowed two runs on four hits over five innings, walking three and striking out six.
Starling Joseph drove in three runs to lead the Majors (12-21). Cleveland Brownlee connected on a solo home run, Austin Wilkie had two RBI, while Will Pollard, Eduardo De Oleo, Brett Graham and Daniel Battel all drove in a run.
Skylar Janisse (0-1) took the loss, giving up 10 runs (nine earned) on 11 hits over 2.2 innings. He walked three and struck out two.
Red Sox take down Baycats
BRANTFORD – Gus Wilson homered and drove in five to lead the Brantford Red Sox to a 14-9 win over Barrie on Sunday afternoon at Arnold Anderson Stadium.
Wilson finished with three hits and three runs, while teammate Matthew Fabian went 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBI. Christian Kuzemka and Roger Keen each had two hits and an RBI, Jesse Fishbaum drove in two, Kieran Bowles had an RBI and Spencer Jamieson singled twice and scored three times.
Danny Howat (3-4) earned the win with 3.1 scoreless innings of relief. He scattered four hits, walked three and struck out one. Starter Danny Garcia lasted 4.2 innings and gave up six runs (five earned) on seven hits with seven walks and a strikeout.
Brantford improved to 7-27.
Noel McGarry-Doyle led the Baycats with three hits, two RBI and two runs. Malik Williams drove in two, Hayden Jaco went 3-for-5 with an RBI, Victor Plaz had three hits and a run, and Carson Burns, Kyle Maves and Brad McQuinn had an RBI apiece.
Barrie starter Aidan Rossel (0-2) was charged with seven runs on nine hits over 3.2 innings. He walked one and struck out two.
The Baycats fell to 23-11.
Jacklin’s big hit lifts Panthers past Jackfish
KITCHENER – Blake Jacklin’s fourth hit of the game was a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh that broke a 6-6 tie and lifted Kitchener to an 8-6 win over Welland on Sunday at Jack Couch Park.
Jacklin doubled twice, singled twice and drove in two. Yunior Ibarra drove in three on a pair of hits, Andy Leader drilled a solo home run, Liam Wilson went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Marcel Lacasse had two hits and scored twice.
Daniel Marquez (2-0) picked up the win after giving up three runs on a hit and two walks in one inning. Panthers’ starter Jose Vasquez allowed three runs on five hits over six innings. He walked one and fanned five. Jordan Bahnuk earned his third save with two scoreless innings. He walked one and struck out one.
Kitchener improved to 22-14.
Steven Moretto homered twice and had four RBI for first-place Welland (25-10). Hogan Brown went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs and Carlos Martinez added an RBI.
Mike Mueller (1-1) took the loss, giving up two runs and a walk in two-thirds of an inning. Jake Harford started and went five innings, yielding five runs on 10 hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.
