The Welland Jackfish continued to add to their roster by signing 23-year-old Greyson Barrett, a recent standout from Texas Wesleyan University.
Over three college seasons at Texas Wesleyan, Barrett, who holds dual US/Canadian citizenship, accumulated impressive stats. In 509 at-bats, he recorded 82 extra-base hits, including 43 home runs, along with 180 RBIs. He maintained a .356 batting average and an OPS of 1.103. He was named an All-American in 2023, where he achieved a .415 batting average, hit 20 home runs, and notched 88 RBIs, all within 200 at-bats. His OPS (On-base Plus Slugging) stood at an outstanding 1.278. Additionally, his defensive prowess in left field was acknowledged with a conference Gold Glove award.
Standing at six feet two inches and weighing 215 pounds, Barrett has shown exceptional skills both as a first baseman and an outfielder.
Jason McKay, the General Manager of the Welland Jackfish, expressed his excitement about Barrett’s addition to the team. “Greyson brings a big bat and is equally impressive defensively. His presence will not only deepen our already strong lineup but also bring a significant impact to the IBL,” McKay said. He also highlighted Barrett’s potential for growth and his eagerness to see him perform in the IBL.
