TORONTO – Toronto and Guelph split their games Sunday afternoon at Christie Pits.
In Game 1, which resumed three days after it was suspended, Guelph’s Josh Garton went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in a 5-0 win. Malik Collymore drove in a run and Ethan Hammond singled twice.
Claudio Custodio went the distance three days apart, scattering seven hits and walking four while striking out nine.
Jose Vinicio and Garrett Takamatsu each had a pair of hits for the Leafs. Wilgenis Alvarado took the loss, allowing two runs on six hits over five innings. He walked one and struck out one.
In Game 3, the Leafs scored three times in the bottom of the seventh of a 6-5 win. Toronto leads the best-of-five series 2-1.
Vinicio went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs. Jordan Castaldo, Takamatsu, Johnathan Solazzo and Greg Carrington drove in the other runs.
Chris Nagorski picked up the win in relief. He allowed a run on two hits in an inning. Dustin Richardson was perfect in the ninth inning to earn the save. Leafs’ starter Daniel Procopio went six innings and gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
Garton once again homered for the Royals, a solo shot. Custodio went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Collymore and Interisano drove in the other runs. Kyle Kush had a pair of hits.
Yomar Concepcion took the loss, giving up two runs on a hit and a walk without recording an out. Kyle Thomas started and went 6.1 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.
Majors take series lead against Panthers
KITCHENER – London took both games Sunday at Jack Couch Park in Kitchener and lead the Panthers 2-1 in the best-of-five quarter-final.
Before Game 3, the teams finished the series opener, which was suspended Thursday. London won 8-1 as Starling Joseph homered three times and drove in six runs. Tommy Reyes-Cruz went deep twice with a pair of solo home runs. Byron Reichstein went 2-for-3 with three runs, and Daniel Battel singled twice.
Owen Boon threw all nine innings in the win, allowing a run on six hits with a walk and 10 strikeouts.
Raul Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a solo blast for the Panthers. Humberto Ruiz added a pair of hits.
Christian Hauck gave up three runs on five hits over 3.2 innings. He walked four and struck out two.
In Game 3, Reichstein hit a pair of solo home runs in a 5-2 victory. Jordan Schulefand drove in two and Reyes-Cruz added an RBI. Joseph singled twice and scored.
Wilbur Martinez picked up the win in relief, throwing four hitless innings. Owen Boon went the first four innings and scattered three hits without giving up a run. He walked three and struck out three.
Elliott Curtis hit a solo home run for the Panthers. Yunior Ibarra singled twice and scored. Jett Jarvis had an RBI.
Jose Vasquez allowed a run on one hit with three walks over two innings and took the loss. He struck out two. Panthers starter Yamichel Perez yielded two runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts over five innings.
