BARRIE – Adam Odd went 4-for-5 with two RBI in the Barrie Baycats’ series-opening 9-8 quarter-final win over Hamilton on Thursday night at Vintage Throne Stadium.
The Baycats’ first baseman also scored four times as Barrie held off Hamilton’s late push. The Cards scored twice in the ninth and had two players in scoring position when Baycats’ reliever Brad Grieveson struck out Jacob Underwood and induced Laine Renaud to ground out and end the game.
Grieveson recorded the last five outs and scattered four hits while striking out two. Frank Garces started and went six innings. Four of the five runs he allowed were unearned, and he walked one and struck out 10.
At the plate, Barrie’s Royce Ando drove in three on a pair of hits, Hayden Jaco went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and Ryan Rijo drove in two on a pair of hits.
For Hamilton, Quin Cotton went 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI. Dennis Dei Baning had two hits, an RBI and a run, while Logan Walters and Luis Bernardo each drove in a run.
Colby Ring took the loss, giving up seven runs on 11 hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

Rain and lightning wreaked havoc Thursday night with the other playoff games that were suspended. London was leading Kitchener 3-1 in the third inning, Welland was up 8-4 on Brantford in the sixth inning and Guelph led 2-0 in Toronto in the fifth inning.
All three games will be continued at a later date.
