HAMILTON – The Hamilton Cardinals, announced today the signing of Catcher Luis Bernardo for the upcoming 2023 season.
Bernardo, 34, a native of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, is coming off a season playing for the Tigres de Chinandega of the Nicaraguan Winter League where he hit .302 in 37 games played.
Bernardo was a former signing of the Baltimore Orioles in 2006. He spent six seasons in their minor league system, reaching as high as class-A Advanced with the Frederick Keys.
“First of all, I want to thank God for giving me this opportunity, second to George Halim for trusting me, I really feel very excited to belong to the Hamilton Cardinals, my purpose is to do a good job and help the team get the championship.” said Luis Bernardo. “I also want to address our fans, to support the team, since this year will be a blessing, I am confident that the board will put a tremendous team on the field to win the championship that Hamilton longs for.” said Bernardo.
“We were looking for a very specific type of person behind the plate, and Luis checks off every box,” said George Halim, Hamilton Cardinals General Manager. “He’s got 2200+ innings of affiliate ball alone behind the plate, he’s family-oriented, and he’s a very down-to-earth human being. He’s also got an adaptive swing and knows how to orchestrate a baseball game.”
“I couldn’t picture anyone else guiding our young core into the next few years. We’re very excited to have him in Hamilton – straight up.” said Halim.
